| The Sabetha Twisters Car Club was started as a result of the tornado that hit Sabetha the second weekend in June 1998. The first show was on June 14, 1999 in downtown Sabetha. Due to excessive heat from the streets, the club decided to move the show to Sycamore Springs for the 6th annual show, so the vehicles could be displayed in the shade. We continue to hold the show the second Sunday in June in honor of Sabetha's comeback from the twister that took out the original City Hall. The club was started by car enthusiasts who wanted to show their collections as well. At the same time it was decided that the club would give money back to the community in the form of donations to local organizations or people in need. The car club has donated funds towards a wheel chair, given money to indviduals who were in need, and has contributed to the Nemaha County Community Health Services for the past 8 years to be used for child immunizations. We also strated a $500 scholarship to help graduates of Sabetha High School continue with their education in the automotive repair industry. It doesn't matter how much technology you put into a car, you willl always need someone to service it and what a better way than to have someone locally perform those tasks. We raise money for donations through sponsorship of the annual car show, the sale of the annual car show t-shirts, and from donations. The Car Show typically draws around 125 participants from the 4 state area. Photos of last years show can be viewed at our club website www.twisterscarclub.com |
